Every grid is built with automatic crossing placement, clean numbering and two clue lists (across and down), exactly like the puzzle magazines.

For a birthday, enter the guests' names with a fun clue for each: you get custom printable crosswords for all the kids. Teachers can build vocabulary grids on any lesson in minutes.

Is the crossword generator really free?+
Yes, totally free and no signup. Generate, print and download as many crossword grids as you like.
How do I print my crossword as a PDF?+
After generating, click "PDF (grid + answer key)": an A4 PDF downloads with the blank grid and clues on one page and the answer key on the next. You can also use "Print" for direct printing.
Can I make custom crosswords for a birthday?+
Yes. Choose the "My list" source, enter your words (for example the guests' names) as "word : clue", add a title like "Lea's Birthday", and print. It's the perfect activity for a kids' party.
Can the AI generate the words and clues automatically?+
Yes. With the "AI theme" source, just type a theme (pirates, the jungle, soccer…) and the AI suggests kid-friendly words with their clues, ready to be placed in the grid.
What's the difference between crosswords, word searches and hidden words?+
Crosswords are solved from clues: you write the crossing words in the grid. Word searches are about finding words inside a letter grid. The hidden word is a word search variant: once all words are crossed out, the leftover letters reveal a hidden word.
Do you also make arrow-words?+
For now the generator offers crosswords and word searches (with hidden word). Arrow-words aren't available yet, but other free tools like the name coloring page, maze and bingo already are.
